Here is a sample of the back of a character card that I completed for Clementine, the character in a book that I read aloud to the class.
I would cut this out and then glue it to the back of my character card. The backs can be typed, but students must do the typing. Students can write directly onto the back of the card if they can do so neatly.
Notes for students:
-Be creative when making the pictures on the front...a variety of mediums are welcomed! I would avoid doing anything that would bleed through the back unless you plan on covering it up.
-Make sure that you can back up your responses on the back with evidence from the book. You don't need to write that evidence on the card, but if I ask, you need to know.
-Your quote doesn't have to be something the character actually says to another character. For example, my quote for Clementine was something that she only said as the narrator of the book. She never said, "Okay, fine" to another character.
-Use what you know about the character to guess at what he/she might like to read. It can be a genre, a series of books (like what I chose for Clementine) or a specific book title.
